Introduction to the photographs of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of HIM Haile Selassie's Visit to Bath
In 1954 HIM Haile Selassie paid a state visit to England as part of which he went to Bath to be awarded the Freedom of the City. The Rastafarian community held a celebration on the 16th October 2004 to mark the golden jubilee anniversary of this visit to Bath.
This celebration was held at Fairfield House, the residence that His Imperial Majesty had occupied when he was in exile in England during the Italian occupation of Ethiopia. Some of the guests had connections with Fairfield House at the time the Imperial family lived there.
The photographs were taken by representatives of the Anglo-Ethiopian Society who were kindly invited to these proceedings.
