Writers Evening - An Evening of Habesha Writers: Sulaiman Addonia and Maaza Mengiste

Hosted by Lemn Sissay

Monday 17th May 2010

Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX

Level 5 Function Room, 7.45pm, Tickets £7.50.

Sulaiman Addonia and Maaza Mengiste are two novelists from a strong generation of writers born after the Ethiopian Civil War of 1974. Sulaiman Addonia's debut, The Consequences of Love, is a love story set in Saudi Arabia, alive to the diaspora experiences wrought by the war. Maaza Mengiste joins us from New York on publication of Beneath the Lion's Gaze, which explores how the bonds of love and friendship are ravaged by political revolution. The authors will read from their work and take questions from the audience.

The event is hosted by writer in residence Lemn Sissay.
