Music - Akalé Wubé n' all that Ethiojazz

Saturday 26th April 2014

Akalé Wubé will be performing at Rich Mix, 35 - 47 Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6LA on Saturday 26th April. The performance starts at 8:00pm.

Back after their London Jazz Festival debut, super-groovy Parisian Ethiojazz band Akalé Wubé bring you the atmospheric, danceable, retro-inspired sounds of Golden Age 1960s Swingin' Addis Ababa. Inspired by the legendary Éthiopiques series, five Parisian jazz musicians, strong on horns and guitars, reinterpret classic tracks, adding some je ne sais quoi here, some Afrobeat there, a bit of New York scene cool, and a huge dollop "jawa jawa" - what they call ‘the groove’ or ‘swing’ in Amharic.

+ special guest Genet Assefa

+ DJ Chris Menist (Soundways/Paradise Bangkok/Finders Keepers) with rare East African vinyl.

Tickets, £15, £12.50 adv, can be purchased via the Rich Mix website.
