Yohanis Gebreyesus
Saturday 29th June 2019
12:00 – 15:00 at the Embassy of Ethiopia, 17 Princes Gate, London, SW7 1PZ
Join renowned Ethiopian chef, Yohanis Gebreyesus, on his UK book tour which will include a meet-and-greet, book signing and an exclusive taster menu of recipes from his debut cookbook, Ethiopia: Recipes and traditions from the Horn of Africa.
There are recipes for Doro Wat, chicken slowly stewed with berbere spice; Yeassa Alichia, curried fish stew; and Siga Tibs, flash-fried beef cubes. The cuisine also boasts a wealth of vegetarian dishes. Among these are Gomen, minced collard greens with ginger and garlic; Azifa, green lentil salad; and Key Shir, marinated beet and potato salad. The book then explains the intricacies and variations of Injera, the foundational sourdough flatbread made from the teff grain (which is gluten-free and more nutritious than wheat).
Complete with photography of stunning landscapes and vibrant artisans taken by Peter Cassidy, this volume demonstrates why Ethiopian food should be considered as one of the world's greatest, most singular and most enchanting cuisines.
This stunning cookbook, launched in the UK late last year, has been shortlisted for the Guild of Food Writers 2019 International or Regional Cookbook Award (Winner to be announced 27 July).
Ethiopia: Recipes and traditions from the Horn of Africa will be available for purchase at the event.
