Lecture - Islamic Ethiopia

Dr Jacke Phillips

Thursday 10th April 2014

7:00pm, Room B102 Brunei Gallery, SOAS, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG - Public lecture (all welcome)

When we think of Ethiopia, it is usually the Orthodox Christian Churches and ancient monuments in the north that immediately spring to mind. However Ethiopia is at least one-third Islamic, with its own history, architecture and culture that interacts with the Christian tradition but none the less remains distinct, especially in the east of the country. The speaker will introduce and consider aspects of Islam in Ethiopia.

Dr Jacke Phillips is a Research and Teaching Fellow at SOAS.
